The environment is hostile towards people whose only possession is a bike and a few clothes. For the homeless suburbia is a distant dream. Other people have houses, not them. They are excluded from society’s largesse and nobody really cares. Every year their numbers just increase while the politicians argue about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. None of them really want to build more houses. It’s about supply and demand. Choke the supply, the demand goes up and consequently the prices follow. In my day year this was year twelve economics. In these days we don’t learn about such basics.
