The author’s daughter was diagnosed with cancer in 2022 and her husband, who was not prepared to put up with a sick wife, turned on her. When faced with eviction, he burnt down their house. She lost everything that gave her life meaning. He absconded back to where he came from with a handful of treasures he had collected before he lit the fire.
Her daughter’s tragedy resonated with the author as she had also suffered domestic violence some sixty years earlier. The chilling comparison between the two cases motivated her to identify the reasons behind the escalating domestic violence in society today. The misogynism that she experienced during the turbulent years from 1950 to 1980 gives her book a personal touch which validates her observations about how men and women have treated each other throughout the period in question.
In her search for the causes of modern misogynism, the author has identified the many ways the ruling class has modified or created gender stereotypes aimed at subjugating women and keeping men busy and distracted in policing them. The ruling class manipulation of gender is but a tool in its arsenal of dirty tricks used distract the population whilst getting away with literally murder and every other crime against humanity.

“This book and the title resonates with me. Carol Ambrus’ work in analysing why Australia today rates second in the world to Saudi Arabia in the rates of men disbelieving the existence of discrimination against women (see UN report) is indeed thought provoking. This book presents a valid perspective on the history (his story) of misogyny in Australia from the colonial days to the seeding of an epidemic of violence against women happening today”.
