Ashleigh is a smart young woman who had trouble with an ex-partner. It was in the middle of winter and her home was the pavement outside MacDonalds in Woden. She was well equipped with clothes and blankets to keep warm. She also had a dog but it was elsewhere so I painted one. We had a very animated conversation about the politics of homelessness and she was aware of the issues that affected her. Without a home a person cannot get a job and without a job a person cannot get a life, unless it’s a life of crime. The Ashleighs of this world deserve better.
