irrePRESSible shop
This irrepressible shop celebrates social activism. We have adults’ books on such diverse subjects as being on the dole, corrupt governance, dodgy politicians,
self serving processes and policies and Centrelink mistakes, mismanagement and malice. Domestic violence in Australia is one issue covered extensively. Included is an illustrated, epic poem on the experience of being female in a misogynist country and an autobiography relating the experiences of a woman coming from a patriarchal family in the fifties. Her life as a single mother and an abused wife who aspired to be an artist and a writer is covered in detail. There is also a theoretical book on the development of gendered violence in Australia, and how this has developed since the first fleet up to the present time. This book examine feminism and the misogynist reaction to gains made by women towards their emancipation. We also have children’s books dealing with issues such as the environment, identity and solving life’s little problems. There are several books about dogs as friends and companions to both children and adults. The kids section covers many more books all superbly illustrated and all with something relevant to say to today’s children. Come on in and have a look.
